Study on the suitability of different depths of trenches revealed that 30-cm, deep trench gave highest cane and sugar yield with an additional profit of about Rs. 10000 over control. It also facilitates to take two or more economical ratoons, which is not possible by normal method of planting. Further improvement of yield under trench system of planting could be obtained by application of 25% excess nitrogen.
