The Crop Improvement Division has the following programmes of research:
♣ BREEDING SUPERIOR SUGARCANE VARIETIES OF DIFFERENT MATURITY WITH IMPROVED CANE YIELD, QUALITY AND RESISTANCE TO BIOTIC AND ABIOTIC STRESSES – 9 projects are in operation under this programme.
♣ BASIC AND STRATEGIC RESEARCHES FOR SUGARCANE VARIETAL IMPROVEMENT –15 projects are in operation under this programme.
♣ SUGARCANE GERMPLASM : COLLECTION, MAINTENANCE, EVALUATION, DOCUMENTATION AND UTILIZATION – 3 projects are in operation under this programme
♣ IMPROVING PRODUCTIVITY OF PROMISING SUGARCANE VARIETIES BY INTEGRATED, COST EFFECTIVE AND SUSTAINABLE CROP MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGIES – 7 projects are in operation under this programme.
♣ PHYSIOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS ON GROWTH PRODUCTIVITY AND FLOWERING IN SUGARCANE – 4 projects are in operation under this programme.
♣ STUDIES ON THE EFFECT OF CERTAIN SOIL CONDITIONS & FERTILIZERS ON NUTRIENT UPTAKE, YIELD AND QUALITY OF SUGARCANE – 4 projects are in operation under this programme.
♣ STUDIES ON HOST PATHOGEN RELATIONSHIP AND MANAGEMENT OF SUGARCANE DISEASES- 10 projects are in operation under this programme.
♣ HOST PLANT RESISTANCE AND BEHAVIOURAL STUDIES OF SUGARCANE PESTS – 2 projects are in operation under this programme.
♣ BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF SUGARCANE PESTS – 5 projects are in operation under this programme.
♣ CHEMICAL CONTROL OF SUGARCANE PESTS- 1 project is in operation under this programme.
There are two major programmes of research (with 2 projects) under the Statistics-Economics section.
♣ DEVELOPMENT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND STATISTICAL MODELS FOR SUGARCANE RESEARCH.
♣ ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF SUGARCANE PRODUCTION SYSTEMS AND SUGAR INDUSTRY
There is one major research programme under the Regional Centre at Karnal viz.–
♣ DEVELOPMENT OF SUGARCANE VARIETIES AS WELL AS CROP PRODUCTION AND PROTECTION TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE NORTH WESTERN ZONE OF INDIA. There are 9 projects under this programme
There is one major research programme under the Research Centre at Kannur viz.–
